Bible Truth Foundations

Session Notes · Part 2: Growing in Christ

The Well Shrewsbury · Part 2 of 3 · 16 Lessons · 30-Minute Sessions

How to read this: Bold = word to land on. Scripture = read aloud. Amber = ask the room. Green = your bridge. Purple = facilitator cue. Red = pastoral / watch-for. Times run from the start of a 30-minute session.

Standing Habits · Every Session

  • Core truth first open with the key scripture and the core truth, then teach to it
  • Protect the clock each lesson has a "running over?" cue. Cut from the bottom of the teaching, never the core passage
  • Homework stays homework discovery questions and revision cards are for learners to do on their own
  • Application one specific, named thing this week, not a summary
  • Close in prayer into what surfaced today, not generic

Section A · Mind and Word

Before You Start

  • Sensitivity MEDIUM live conflicts (marriages, families, church) may be in the room
  • Highest impact Proverbs 13:10 strife does not come from difficult people or circumstances
  • Watch for low self-esteem heard as "you're proud". Explain: same self-focus, seen from the other side

① Opening + Core Truth0:00-0:05

Ask the room

"Think of the last argument that really stung. Not the biggest, the one that got under your skin. What exactly were you defending?"

Proverbs 13:10 (NKJV)

"By pride comes nothing but strife, But with the well-advised is wisdom."

Cue

Read it twice. Ask what the verse does not say: strife from difficult people, unfair treatment or bad circumstances.

  • Core truth strife has only one root, and it is not what happens to you; it is self at the centre. Peace begins where self is dethroned and Christ is Lord

② Teaching Walkthrough0:05-0:19

1 · Where strife comes from

  • Pride not just arrogance; standing at the centre of your own world, measuring everything by how it affects you

Caution

Low self-esteem isn't the opposite of pride; it's the same self-focus. The cure is not a better opinion of yourself but a smaller preoccupation with yourself.

  • Proverbs 17:14 strife is like releasing water. Stop it before the quarrel starts

2 · The argument on the road

Mark 9:35 (NKJV)

"If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all."

  • the disciples went silent because they knew. Jesus didn't rebuke the desire for greatness; He redefined it
  • Luke 22:27 "I am among you as the One who serves." If He took the serving place, none of us can claim the centre

3 · Moses: the most humble man

  • Numbers 12:3 criticised publicly, Moses didn't defend himself. God did, and Moses prayed for his critics
  • Meekness strength under God's hand. Free from self-reference, not spineless

4 · Dethroning self

Galatians 2:20 (NKJV)

"I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me..."

  • the answer is not self-improvement but a death and a replacement. Strife loses its fuel

Running over?

Drop Moses and Matthew 7:12 first. Never cut Proverbs 13:10 or Mark 9:35.

③ Group Discussion0:19-0:26

Pick 1-2

• Jesus redefined greatness as serving rather than rebuking the desire. Why do you think He did that?

• Where's the line between healthy self-respect and self-centredness?

• Think of someone marked by unusual peace. How do they handle being wronged?

Watch-for

Don't let anyone use this to diagnose a spouse or colleague in the room. Keep it first person.

④ Application + Close0:26-0:30

  • Next disagreement before replying, ask silently: what am I defending right now?
  • Church serve someone difficult who can't repay you, in secret
  • Criticised follow Moses. Don't rush to your own defence; let God defend you
  • One thing which one this week?

Land it

"By pride comes nothing but strife. Dethrone self and the water stops." Close in prayer.

Before You Start

  • Sensitivity LOW guilt about patchy Bible reading
  • Highest impact Joshua 1:8 the only place God directly promises prosperity and good success, attached to meditation
  • Watch for confusion with eastern "empty your mind" meditation. Biblical meditation fills the mind

① Opening + Core Truth0:00-0:05

Ask the room

"When you read the Bible, what usually happens next? Does it stay with you through the day, or is it gone by breakfast?"

Joshua 1:8 (NKJV)

"This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night... For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success."

Cue

Prosperity and success are both attached to one practice here. Name it.

  • Core truth meditation is not emptying your mind; it's filling it with God's Word and turning it over until you meet the God behind it

② Teaching Walkthrough0:05-0:19

1 · What meditation is

  • Hebrew muse, ponder, plan in the mind. Greek: revolve it in your thoughts, even imagine
  • read slowly enough for the Word to start reading you

2 · Why meditate

Psalm 1:2-3 (NKJV)

"...in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water..."

  • Two purposes renew the mind, and contact the God behind His Word
  • the tree doesn't strain to bear fruit; it's planted where the water is

Caution

You can study words about God and never meet Him. Luke 6:46: "Why do you call Me 'Lord, Lord,' and not do the things which I say?"

3 · Four ways in

  • Topical one subject through the Bible. Expositional:: a book verse by verse
  • Word study one term until its weight is felt. Paragraph:: one unit of thought; where does the writer turn and why?
  • Tip notice the questions in Scripture. Every one was asked for a reason

4 · Hidden in the heart

Psalm 119:11 (NKJV)

"Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You."

  • Joshua 1:8 joins mouth, mind and hands: speak it, ponder it, do it
  • Psalm 19:14 the goal is communion, not information. Ponder until the text becomes prayer

Running over?

Drop the four methods to a one-line mention. Never cut Joshua 1:8 or Psalm 1.

③ Group Discussion0:19-0:26

Pick 1-2

• What's been your honest experience of Bible reading: duty, delight, confusion, habit? What made it come alive?

• Joshua 1:8 promises prosperity and success. What does that promise mean, and what doesn't it mean?

• Share one verse that has stayed with you for years. Why do you think that one took root?

Cue

Keep it practical. Invite anyone with a working habit to share what helps.

④ Application + Close0:26-0:30

  • One verse, all day breakfast, aloud at midday, before sleep. One verse held beats a chapter forgotten
  • Together try a short paragraph study with a friend
  • Hard season don't force analysis. Repeat one line slowly to God (Isaiah 26:3)
  • One thing which one this week?

Land it

"Read slowly enough for the Word to start reading you, until it turns into prayer." Close in prayer.

Before You Start

  • Sensitivity MEDIUM intrusive thoughts, anxiety; some may have clinical struggles
  • Highest impact Romans 12:2 transformation happens first in the mind
  • Watch for anyone hearing "just think differently" about mental illness. Renewal and proper help go together

① Opening + Core Truth0:00-0:05

Ask the room

"What thought have you replayed most this week? If your closest friend could hear your inner monologue, what would surprise them?"

Romans 12:2 (NKJV)

"And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God."

Cue

Ask: where does transformation happen first? Not circumstances or behaviour: the mind.

  • Core truth you can't always choose the thoughts that arrive, but you always choose the thoughts that stay. Transformation happens where thoughts are dwelt on

② Teaching Walkthrough0:05-0:19

1 · You can choose your thoughts

Philippians 4:8 (NKJV)

"...whatever things are true, whatever things are noble... meditate on these things."

  • the command would be cruel if impossible. Arrival is not residence
  • Proverbs 23:7 "as he thinks in his heart, so is he"

2 · Constant course correction

  • Romans 12:1-2 present the body; renew the mind
  • like a spacecraft to the moon: many small corrections. Conformity by drift; transformation by deliberate adjustment
  • Replacement, not suppression "don't picture a pink elephant". Turn the mind to what God says; the thought loses its oxygen

3 · Life and peace, or death

Romans 8:6 (NKJV)

"For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace."

  • not poetry; diagnosis. A mind on the flesh produces death in slow instalments

Caution

Many fight the enemy with words while surrendering to him in thought. Resisting (James 4:7) starts with refusing his suggestions dwelling space.

4 · Kept in perfect peace

Isaiah 26:3 (NKJV)

"You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You."

  • recognise the thought, turn to what God said, draw near to Him (James 4:8)

Running over?

Drop the spacecraft picture and Proverbs 23:7 first. Never cut Philippians 4:8 or Isaiah 26:3.

③ Group Discussion0:19-0:26

Pick 1-2

• Is it genuinely possible to choose your thoughts? Share experiences on both sides.

• Why does suppressing a thought strengthen it while replacing it weakens it?

• What's the difference between renewing the mind and positive thinking?

Pastoral

If someone shares anxiety or depression, affirm that renewing the mind and seeking medical help are not in competition. Follow up privately.

④ Application + Close0:26-0:30

  • Persistent thought write one verse that answers it. Speak it aloud every time it comes
  • Group steer conversations away from rehearsing grievances, toward Philippians 4:8
  • Crisis three fixed moments a day, speak Isaiah 26:3 back to God
  • One thing which one this week?

Land it

"You choose what stays. Evict the lie by filling the room with truth." Close in prayer.

Section B · Church and Authority

Before You Start

  • Sensitivity MEDIUM people hurt by church; those who've drifted from gathering
  • Highest impact Hebrews 10:24-25 the purpose of gathering is one-another ministry, not attendance
  • Watch for this becoming "big church vs home church" debate. Keep it on participation, not format

① Opening + Core Truth0:00-0:05

Ask the room

"When you hear 'church', what picture forms first: a building, a Sunday service, or people? Where did that picture come from?"

Hebrews 10:24-25 (NKJV)

"And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together... but exhorting one another..."

Cue

Notice the purpose attached to assembling: considering, stirring up, exhorting. Not attendance for its own sake.

  • Core truth the church is not a building you attend but a people you belong to. Wherever believers gather in Jesus' name to build one another up, the church is meeting

② Teaching Walkthrough0:05-0:19

1 · What the word means

  • Ecclesia an assembly of people. Never once a building in the New Testament

Matthew 18:20 (NKJV)

"For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them."

  • early church met mostly in homes (Romans 16:5; Colossians 4:15; Acts 5:42)

2 · What gathering is for

1 Corinthians 14:26 (NKJV)

"...Whenever you come together, each of you has a psalm, has a teaching... Let all things be done for edification."

  • participation, not performance. Every member functioning; gifts unused are gifts wasted

Caution

You can sit in rows for years and never be considered, stirred up or exhorted. Being in the room doesn't fulfil Hebrews 10:24-25.

3 · The living cycle

  • Acts 2:47 scatter to share faith; the Lord adds the saved to His people; gather; scatter again

4 · You can't survive alone

  • saved into a body, not isolation. Withdrawing cuts you off from others' gifts and withholds yours
  • practical care: widows fed daily (Acts 6:1), James 1:27

Running over?

Drop the living cycle and practical care first. Never cut Hebrews 10:24-25 or ecclesia.

③ Group Discussion0:19-0:26

Pick 1-2

• What did you grow up believing "church" meant? How has this confirmed or challenged it?

• Passive attendance or participating body: which have you mostly experienced, and what made the difference?

• What would the early church's daily sharing look like in our context, realistically?

Pastoral

Some have been hurt by church. Acknowledge it; don't defend or argue. Offer to talk afterwards.

④ Application + Close0:26-0:30

  • Your gift arrive at the next gathering intending to give, not only receive
  • One relationship move one from row-level to one-another level this month
  • Hard season tell two believers the truth and let them carry you
  • One thing which one this week?

Land it

"Not 'did I go to church?' but 'did I build anyone up, and let anyone build me?'" Close in prayer.

Before You Start

  • Sensitivity HIGH fear of the demonic; some with occult history or past bad experiences of "deliverance ministry"
  • Highest impact Matthew 4 "It is written" three times. The Word is the weapon
  • Watch for fear or sensationalism. Aim for confidence, not curiosity; never turn it toward people (Ephesians 6:12)

① Opening + Core Truth0:00-0:05

Ask the room

"Does the devil feel more real to you than the authority you have over him, or less? What shaped that?"

1 John 3:8 (NKJV)

"...For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil."

Cue

The purpose of the incarnation in one clause. Whatever the devil builds, the Son came to demolish.

  • Core truth Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil, and armed His people with His Word and His name. The believer fights from victory, not for it

② Teaching Walkthrough0:05-0:19

1 · What Jesus came to do

  • about a quarter of Jesus' recorded ministry involved setting people free from oppression

Colossians 1:13 (NKJV)

"He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love."

  • deliverance is first positional: you've been transferred. His only weapons left: deception and intimidation

2 · The sword of the Spirit

  • Ephesians 6:17 the only offensive piece of armour is the Word
  • Jesus didn't argue or panic: "It is written". Spoken Scripture does what shouting never will

Caution

"We do not wrestle against flesh and blood" (Ephesians 6:12). The moment warfare turns into suspicion of people, it has left the rails.

3 · Submit, then resist

James 4:7 (NKJV)

"Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you."

  • the order matters. Authority flows from being under authority. "Will flee", not "might"
  • resistance around Bible reading is a sign of significance, not failure

4 · Authority in Jesus' name

  • Luke 10:19 authority "over all the power of the enemy". Not a magic word; delegated authority

Running over?

Drop "why the enemy resists the Word" first. Never cut 1 John 3:8 or James 4:7.

③ Group Discussion0:19-0:26

Pick 1-2

• Why does the church swing between obsession with the demonic and total silence? Where's the biblical balance?

• Why is the Word called the sword, rather than our arguments, volume or willpower?

• What's the difference between healthy vigilance and fear?

Watch-for

If someone discloses occult involvement or oppression, don't handle it in the group. Involve church leaders privately and calmly.

④ Application + Close0:26-0:30

  • Memorise James 4:7. Submit first, resist second; answer dark suggestions aloud with Scripture
  • Discipling pray for new believers; resistance clusters around new growth
  • Under pressure don't isolate. Anchor to Colossians 1:13; ask mature believers to pray with you
  • One thing which one this week?

Land it

"Fleeing is the enemy's job, not yours. Submit to God, speak the Word, stand." Close in prayer.

Before You Start

  • Sensitivity MEDIUM people who feel powerless or intimidated spiritually
  • Highest impact Matthew 28:18-19 "All authority..." then immediately "Go". Claimed, then delegated
  • Watch for overemphasis on the devil's power. Keep the room looking at Christ's authority

① Opening + Core Truth0:00-0:05

Ask the room

"When you pray about a problem, do you speak as someone asking help from outside, or as someone given authority inside it?"

Matthew 28:18 (NKJV)

"And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, 'All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.'"

Cue

Point to the very next word: "Go" (v19). All authority claimed, then delegated into His people's mission.

  • Core truth Satan's only real weapon is deception. Christ holds all authority and shares it with His people, so a believer who knows the truth can't be ruled by a defeated enemy

② Teaching Walkthrough0:05-0:19

1 · Dominion given

  • Genesis 1:26 / Psalm 115:16 God kept ownership but delegated the running of the earth to people

2 · Authority surrendered

  • Genesis 3:1 Satan came with a question, not force. He couldn't take authority; he talked them into yielding it
  • 2 Corinthians 4:4 he became "the god of this age"
  • he fires lies; we supply the ammunition by believing them (John 8:32)

3 · Authority recovered

  • Jesus refused every deception, went to the cross, rose holding all authority
  • Ephesians 1:19-20 the same power that seated Christ "far above all principality" is toward us who believe

4 · The real battle is the mind

2 Corinthians 10:4-5 (NKJV)

"...casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ."

  • strongholds are built of arguments, not bricks. Authority looks like refusing lies dwelling space

Running over?

Drop Psalm 115:16 and Ephesians 1:19 first. Never cut Matthew 28:18 or 2 Corinthians 10:5.

③ Group Discussion0:19-0:26

Pick 1-2

• Why did Satan use deception rather than force in Eden? What does that reveal about his actual power?

• Authority vs power: why does a police officer's raised hand stop a lorry?

• How would our praying change if we truly believed we're seated with Christ above all principality?

Cue

Use the police officer picture to make it concrete. Let the room enjoy the answer.

④ Application + Close0:26-0:30

  • Self-talk audit name lies as suggestions, refuse them, replace with truth aloud
  • Church when someone rehearses the enemy's script, gently hand them God's
  • Hard season pray from victory, not toward it. Christ holds all authority now
  • One thing which one this week?

Land it

"The enemy only has lies. Stop supplying the ammunition. Christ holds all authority." Close in prayer.

Section C · Healing and Relationships

Before You Start

  • Sensitivity VERY HIGH people currently ill, carers, and the recently bereaved after unanswered prayer
  • Highest impact Matthew 8:17 Scripture itself applies Isaiah 53 to sick bodies
  • Watch for anyone hearing "you weren't healed because of you". Read the pastoral honesty section with real care

① Opening + Core Truth0:00-0:05

Ask the room

"When you pray for someone's healing, what do you honestly expect to happen? Where did that expectation come from?"

Isaiah 53:4-5 (NKJV)

"Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows... But He was wounded for our transgressions... And by His stripes we are healed."

Cue

700 years before the cross. Read the list slowly: griefs, sorrows, transgressions, iniquities, peace, healing.

  • Core truth at the cross Jesus carried sins and sicknesses together. Healing is not a lucky extra but a purchased provision of the atonement

② Teaching Walkthrough0:05-0:19

1 · Matthew's inspired interpretation

Matthew 8:17 (NKJV)

"...that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: 'He Himself took our infirmities And bore our sicknesses.'"

  • applied to real bodies: blind eyes opened, fevers left. Can't be spiritualised away
  • 1 Peter 2:24 "by whose stripes you were healed". Past tense, accomplished

2 · One word, whole salvation

  • Sozo saved, rescued, delivered, healed. A whole-person word (James 5:15)

3 · Preaching and healing together

  • Matthew 10:7-8 preach, heal, cleanse, raise, cast out. Freely received, freely give
  • Mark 16:18 "they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover"

Caution

God is not the author of sickness. Don't credit to God what Jesus spent His ministry destroying.

4 · Provision and pastoral honesty

  • healing is not a test of salvation or love for God. Believers can love God deeply and die unhealed
  • what the cross settles is the direction of God's will: He is for your healing
  • Mark 1:41 "I am willing". Pray from provision, not uncertainty

Running over?

Drop sozo and Mark 16:18 first. Never cut Matthew 8:17 or the pastoral honesty point.

③ Group Discussion0:19-0:26

Pick 1-2

• What were you taught, explicitly or by silence, about whether God still heals? How has it shaped your praying?

• How do we hold bold faith for healing together with honest love for those not yet healed?

• If God isn't the author of sickness, how should we speak about illness in prayers and conversation?

Watch-for

If someone grieving a loss speaks, stop and honour them. Never imply blame. Follow up privately.

④ Application + Close0:26-0:30

  • Personal pray 1 Peter 2:24 over your own needs. Let its past tense set your prayer's tense
  • Church when someone asks for prayer for sickness, pray there and then
  • Waiting refuse despair and self-accusation. Keep receiving prayer and the Word
  • One thing which one this week?

Land it

"The same cross that carried your sins carried your sicknesses. His will toward you is good." Offer prayer for the sick. Close in prayer.

Before You Start

  • Sensitivity VERY HIGH unanswered prayer, bereavement, chronic illness in the room
  • Highest impact the response to new knowledge is never guilt about the past, but faith for the present
  • Watch for "you lacked faith" verdicts. Removes blame from God without dumping it on the sufferer

① Opening + Core Truth0:00-0:05

Ask the room

"Have you ever prayed for healing that didn't come? What conclusion did you quietly draw about God, yourself or prayer?"

Hosea 4:6 (NKJV)

"My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge..."

Cue

The destruction isn't caused by God's unwillingness but by ignorance. That distinction carries the whole lesson.

  • Core truth God's willingness to heal is settled at the cross. Where healing is hindered the blockage lies in ignorance, sin's inroads or unbelief, never God's reluctance

② Teaching Walkthrough0:05-0:19

1 · Ignorance

  • like gravity: ignorance exempts no one from consequences. You can't receive what you don't know exists

Pastoral

Someone who prayed in the dark and lost someone did not fail; they hadn't been taught. No guilt about the past.

2 · Sin's inroads

  • John 9:3 not all sickness is personal sin. Jesus flatly refused that equation
  • John 5:14 yet "sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you". Sin can open a door

Caution

Beware morbid introspection. Where there's real sin, repent and move on. Endless self-examination is unbelief wearing a religious coat.

3 · Unbelief, ours and others'

Mark 6:5-6 (NKJV)

"Now He could do no mighty work there, except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them. And He marveled because of their unbelief."

  • the limit in Nazareth was the atmosphere, not the Healer

4 · What to do

James 5:15 (NKJV)

"And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven."

  • get knowledge; close doors by simple repentance; guard the atmosphere (Mark 5:40)
  • none of this earns healing; it clears debris from a provision already made

Running over?

Drop the gravity picture and Mark 5:40 first. Never cut the pastoral note on ignorance or the introspection caution.

③ Group Discussion0:19-0:26

Pick 1-2

• Which explanation of unanswered prayer have you found most damaging: "God sent it", "you lacked faith", or silence?

• How can a church teach on hindrances boldly without wounding the sick among them?

• What's the difference between honest self-examination and morbid introspection?

Watch-for

If someone is visibly hurting, pause the discussion. Pray for them, gently, if they want it.

④ Application + Close0:26-0:30

  • Knowledge one Gospel healing story a day; note Jesus' willingness each time. Write "I am willing" where you'll see it
  • Group pray the prayer of faith, not only sympathy. Never send someone away with a verdict on their faith
  • Waiting keep taking the Word like medicine; refuse vague guilt; stay with faith-filled people
  • One thing which one this week?

Land it

"Delay is not denial. God's will for you was published at the cross." Close in prayer.

Before You Start

  • Sensitivity VERY HIGH abuse, betrayal, deep family wounds may be in the room
  • Highest impact the opening question: whose name came to mind?
  • Watch for forgiveness confused with excusing, trusting again or staying in danger. Make the caution clear

① Opening + Core Truth0:00-0:05

Ask the room

"Whose name came to mind just now, before we even started? What happens inside you when you hear that name?"

Matthew 18:21-22 (NKJV)

"...'Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?' Jesus said to him, 'I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.'"

Cue

Peter thought seven was generous (rabbis taught three). Jesus' answer isn't arithmetic; it's a way of life.

  • Core truth forgiven people forgive. What others owe you is pocket change beside the debt God cancelled for you, and refusing to release it hands you to the tormentors

② Teaching Walkthrough0:05-0:19

1 · Seventy times seven

  • by 490 you've stopped counting. That's the point: an attitude, not a tally
  • Luke 23:34 / Acts 7:60 Jesus and Stephen forgave while it was happening

2 · The unforgiving servant

  • ten thousand talents (unpayable) forgiven; then he chokes a colleague over three months' wages
  • the debts are the theology: our debt was death (Romans 6:23), paid in full

3 · Delivered to the tormentors

  • Matthew 18:35 "So My heavenly Father also will do to you if each of you, from his heart, does not forgive..."
  • unforgiveness opens the door to torment: bitterness, oppression, sometimes sickness

Caution

Forgiving is not pretending it didn't hurt, excusing evil or automatically restoring trust. It is releasing the debt to God. Reconciliation takes two; release takes only you.

4 · Forgive when you pray

Mark 11:25 (NKJV)

"And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses."

  • the deadline is whenever you stand praying, several times a day

Running over?

Drop Stephen and the tormentors detail first. Never cut the parable or the caution.

③ Group Discussion0:19-0:26

Pick 1-2

• Why do you think Jesus told a story about money to teach forgiveness?

• Work through what forgiveness is not: release vs excusing vs trusting again vs reconciling.

• How do we help someone forgive a truly terrible wrong without cheapening what was done to them?

Watch-for · abuse

If someone discloses abuse or ongoing harm, safety comes first. Forgiveness never means staying in danger. Follow safeguarding procedures and involve leaders.

④ Application + Close0:26-0:30

  • The name before the week ends, speak the release aloud: "I forgive; I cancel the debt; I hand the case to You"
  • Church refuse to be a courier of offence. Point people to Mark 11:25
  • Severe wound don't forgive alone. Ask a mature believer to pray with you; release in instalments if needed
  • One thing which one this week?

Land it

"You haven't failed if it still stings. You've forgiven if you keep refusing to collect." Close in prayer.

Before You Start

  • Sensitivity HIGH singles, divorced, widowed and struggling couples all present
  • Highest impact Titus 2:4 love can be taught, so it's a skill and a choice, not just a feeling
  • Watch for singles feeling sidelined and divorced people feeling judged. Address both by name early

① Opening + Core Truth0:00-0:05

Ask the room

"Where did you learn what a marriage is supposed to look like? What did the examples you watched teach you, for better or worse?"

Genesis 2:24 (NKJV)

"Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh."

Cue

Three movements: leave, be joined, become one. Every marriage difficulty touches at least one.

  • Core truth marriage is God's good design: a man, a woman and God joined in one purpose. It thrives not on found feelings but on learned, Christ-centred love

Pastoral

Singles, divorced and widowed: this is for you too. Your past is not your future, and the principles shape every relationship.

② Teaching Walkthrough0:05-0:19

1 · God's idea, not ours

  • Genesis 2:18 the one "not good" in creation was loneliness. God answered with covenant companionship
  • Genesis 5:2 He called them one name. One entity in God's sight

2 · Leave, cleave, become one

  • Leave the new household comes first. Cleave:: glued, holding under stress. One flesh:: the fruit of both
  • a triad, not a pair: husband, wife and God. Discord hinders prayer (1 Peter 3:7)

3 · Love is learned, not found

  • many enter marriage never having watched love done well. The gospel says you're not doomed to repeat it

Caution

"I fell out of love" treats love as weather. Scripture treats it as agriculture: sow, tend, grow. Feelings follow actions.

4 · Christ at the centre

John 15:5 (NKJV)

"...He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing."

  • a marriage aimed only at each other runs out of fuel. The vine is a deeper source
  • Matthew 7:12 do for your spouse what you wish they'd do for you, first

Running over?

Drop Genesis 5:2 and 1 Peter 3:7 first. Never cut Genesis 2:24 or "love is learned".

③ Group Discussion0:19-0:26

Pick 1-2

• What models of marriage shaped you? How do you keep the good and break with the bad?

• Do feelings follow actions more than actions follow feelings? Share evidence.

• How can a church strengthen the marriages within it rather than leaving couples to survive alone?

Cue

Turn questions both ways: married to singles ("what does this prepare you for?"), singles to married ("what do you wish you'd known?").

④ Application + Close0:26-0:30

  • Married seven-day Matthew 7:12 experiment. Ask each morning what you'd most want; do it for them first
  • Couples ask each other: "What one daily thing would make you feel loved?" Then do it
  • Church share a meal with a couple further down the road, or invite a younger one
  • One thing which one this week?

Land it

"Love isn't weather that happens to you. It's a field you choose to sow." Close in prayer.

Before You Start

  • Sensitivity HIGH divorce, separation and hard marriages in the room
  • Highest impact Ephesians 5:26 the spoken word (rhema) washes. Words wash or wound
  • Watch for covenant language landing heavy on the divorced. Truth plus warmth; grace belongs to the same story

① Opening + Core Truth0:00-0:05

Ask the room

"If your spouse, or future spouse, could replay everything you said about them to others this month, would it build them up or pull them down?"

Ephesians 5:25 (NKJV)

"Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her."

Cue

The standard isn't fairness, compatibility or fifty-fifty. It's the cross.

  • Core truth marriage is a covenant, not a contract: a binding oath of love kept by daily choices and life-giving words, mirroring Christ and His church

② Teaching Walkthrough0:05-0:19

1 · Covenant, not arrangement

Ezekiel 16:8 (NKJV)

"...I swore an oath to you and entered into a covenant with you, and you became Mine."

  • Berith a binding together, final until death. Covenant, not physical union alone, makes marriage
  • a contract protects me from you (defines exits); a covenant binds me to you (burns the exits)

2 · Love as Christ loved

  • Ephesians 5:28 protect, provide, nourish, cherish. Never expose their weaknesses
  • 1 John 3:18 love "in deed and in truth"

3 · The power of spoken words

  • Ephesians 5:26 "washing of water by the word" (rhema, spoken). Many spouses are starving on a diet of correction

Caution

Public teasing about a spouse's weakness isn't humour; it's exposure. Praise publicly, correct privately, always.

4 · Love willed, then felt

  • Galatians 5:22 agape is chosen daily and supernatural: fruit of the Spirit, not strained human effort
  • Ephesians 5:32 every faithful marriage preaches Christ and the church

Running over?

Drop berith detail and Galatians 5 first. Never cut Ephesians 5:25 or the spoken word.

③ Group Discussion0:19-0:26

Pick 1-2

• Why has covenant thinking become rare? What would it take to recover it?

• What's the most life-giving thing a spouse has said, or could say? Why do words weigh so much?

• How can the unmarried live covenant faithfulness now and support the married well?

Pastoral · divorce in the room

Hold truth and care: "This is God's design. None of us has lived it perfectly, which is exactly why grace is part of the same story."

④ Application + Close0:26-0:30

  • Thirty days one specific, spoken affirmation of your spouse daily, no repeats in a week
  • Weekly deed one act of love that costs you time, preference or pride
  • Church honour marriage publicly; refuse conversations that mock husbands or wives
  • One thing which one this week?

Land it

"Covenants are kept in inches: daily words, daily deeds." Close in prayer.

Before You Start

  • Sensitivity MEDIUM strained relationships; people asked to love someone who hurt them
  • Highest impact agape doesn't wait for feelings. Practise it and phileo grows in its shade
  • Watch for "love your enemy" heard as "stay in harm's way". Agape seeks good; it doesn't require unsafe closeness

① Opening + Core Truth0:00-0:05

Ask the room

"You've said 'I love you' to people, food and football teams. When you say it to God or another person, what do you actually mean?"

1 Corinthians 13:13 (NKJV)

"And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love."

Cue

Of everything that survives this life, Scripture crowns one thing greatest. The lesson asks what exactly it is.

  • Core truth God's kind of love, agape, is not a feeling that comes and goes but a chosen commitment to another's good, and the one thing you keep beyond the grave

② Teaching Walkthrough0:05-0:19

1 · Four words for love

  • Eros romantic, God's gift, for marriage. Storge:: family affection
  • Phileo warm affection; real but tidal. "Falling in and out of love" describes phileo
  • Agape God's love; seeks another's welfare regardless of feeling, cost or response. The load-bearing wall

2 · Agape defined by God

1 John 5:3 (NKJV)

"For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome."

  • defined by direction of will, not intensity of emotion (Matthew 7:12; Romans 13:10)
  • it runs against the flesh, which is why it's fruit of the Spirit: God supplies the strength

3 · Love your enemies

Romans 12:21 (NKJV)

"Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."

  • Romans 12:19-21 vengeance goes to God; we get actions: feed, give drink
  • acting lovingly toward someone you dislike isn't hypocrisy; it's agape working while feelings catch up

4 · In deed and in truth

  • 1 John 3:18 talk is love's cheapest currency. The proof is always enacted

Running over?

Drop the refugee family story and Romans 13:10 first. Never cut the four loves or 1 John 5:3.

③ Group Discussion0:19-0:26

Pick 1-2

• Why is phileo alone an unstable foundation for marriage or church life?

• Is acting lovingly toward someone you dislike hypocrisy? Argue both sides, then settle it from Scripture.

• Where have you seen agape visibly change a person, family or community?

Cue

Keep the four Greek words simple. One line each, then move on to living it.

④ Application + Close0:26-0:30

  • Three acts one person, three costly, unannounced acts of agape this week. Notice your feelings by the weekend
  • Church aim agape at the overlooked: the newcomer, the awkward, the uninvited
  • Feeling unloved act first. Do for someone what you wish were done for you
  • One thing which one this week?

Land it

"If you want a love that feels, do the love that acts." Close in prayer.

Before You Start

  • Sensitivity LOW people who feel forgotten or unloved themselves
  • Highest impact Matthew 25:40 every act of love for the least has a second recipient
  • Watch for Matthew 25 read as salvation by works. Love flows from salvation; it doesn't buy it

① Opening + Core Truth0:00-0:05

Ask the room

"Think of the person who's most convinced you they love you. How much came from what they said, and how much from what they did?"

Matthew 25:40 (NKJV)

"...inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me."

Cue

Read it until the room sees the second recipient.

  • Core truth love is something you do. Nearly all of it is nonverbal, the least of these are its address, and Jesus Himself receives every deed

② Teaching Walkthrough0:05-0:19

1 · Ninety-five per cent nonverbal

  • the Gospels never record Jesus saying "I love you". He demonstrated: fed, touched, healed, washed feet, died

Matthew 25:35-36 (NKJV)

"For I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in..."

  • Romans 5:8 God demonstrates His love. The cross is love's grammar: a verb

2 · The second recipient

  • you can make Jesus a meal this week, at the address of the nearest person in need
  • Hebrews 6:10 God is not unjust to forget your labour of love
  • Matthew 22:37-40 loving God and loving neighbour are one motion

3 · Love doesn't wait to feel like it

  • Gethsemane "not My will, but Yours". Love chose our good against overwhelming feeling
  • 1 John 4:8 cut off from the source, the stream dries

4 · What love covers and carries

1 Corinthians 13:8 (NKJV)

"Love never fails..."

  • Proverbs 10:12 love covers what hatred would publish
  • love is the one portfolio that survives eternity's exchange rate

Running over?

Drop Proverbs 10:12 and Matthew 22 first. Never cut Matthew 25:40.

③ Group Discussion0:19-0:26

Pick 1-2

• "Ninety-five per cent of love is nonverbal." Overstated or accurate? Test it against those who've loved you best.

• Does Matthew 25 teach salvation by works? What does it say and not say?

• Love is the one thing you take beyond the grave. How should that reorder a diary and a bank account?

Cue

Steer the works question briefly: deeds are the evidence of love, not the price of salvation.

④ Application + Close0:26-0:30

  • Matthew 25 deed feed, refresh, welcome, clothe or visit someone who can't repay. Tell only God
  • Group find one need within reach. Two people and a meal beats a committee and a plan
  • Feeling forgotten love someone anyway. It's often the door out of the pit
  • One thing which one this week?

Land it

"The soup you carry across the road goes to two doors at once." Close in prayer.

Section D · Provision and Prayer

Before You Start

  • Sensitivity HIGH debt, financial hardship and money shame may be present
  • Highest impact 2 Corinthians 9:8 abundance with an assignment: "for every good work"
  • Watch for both ditches: poverty as holiness and prosperity as entitlement. Name both early

① Opening + Core Truth0:00-0:05

Ask the room

"Complete this honestly: 'Deep down, I believe God's attitude to me having money is…' Where did that belief come from?"

2 Corinthians 9:8 (NKJV)

"And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work."

Cue

Count the sweep: all grace, always, all sufficiency, all things, abundance. Then ask: what is the abundance for?

  • Core truth God cares about your provision, spirit, soul and body. Biblical prosperity is all sufficiency plus abundance, not to hoard but for every good work

② Teaching Walkthrough0:05-0:19

1 · God's attitude to provision

3 John 2 (NKJV)

"Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers."

  • God's concern is the whole person. Abraham and David: wealth in consecrated hands funded God's purposes

2 · The love of money, not money

  • 1 Timothy 6:10 the love of money is the root, not money itself
  • money is a superb servant and a murderous master (1 Timothy 6:17-18)

Caution

Two ditches: "God wants everyone poor" (lack called holiness) and "God exists to make you rich" (greed called faith). Scripture walks between.

3 · Why God prospers people

Genesis 12:2 (NKJV)

"...I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing."

  • Deuteronomy 8:18 power to get wealth, to establish His covenant
  • Ephesians 4:28 work so you have something to give
  • by this definition, a modest earner who gives freely is prosperous; a millionaire who can't release a pound is poor

4 · Seek first the kingdom

  • Matthew 6:33 the order is everything. Motive is the watershed: consume on self or bless and build

Running over?

Drop Abraham and David detail and Ephesians 4:28 first. Never cut 2 Corinthians 9:8 or the two ditches.

③ Group Discussion0:19-0:26

Pick 1-2

• Why has the church swung between poverty-as-holiness and prosperity-as-entitlement? What does each get wrong?

• What does the love of money look like in someone who has very little?

• What good works in our community are waiting on someone's abundance? Could it be ours?

Pastoral

Some may be in debt or real hardship. No shame. Point to church support and practical help where available.

④ Application + Close0:26-0:30

  • Generosity wish list write the good works you'd fund with abundance. Pray over it weekly
  • Church meet one practical need in the body quietly with others (1 Timothy 6:18)
  • In lack refuse panic and shame; keep sowing what you can
  • One thing which one this week?

Land it

"Blessed to be a blessing. Provision flows to you so it can flow through you." Close in prayer.

Before You Start

  • Sensitivity HIGH past manipulation by churches over money; people on very low incomes
  • Highest impact Mark 12:43 the widow's two mites outweighed fortunes. Proportion, not amount
  • Watch for giving-to-get. "This is not a slot machine"

① Opening + Core Truth0:00-0:05

Ask the room

"When did giving last cost you something you actually felt? What went through your mind as you let it go?"

Luke 6:38 (NKJV)

"Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over... For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you."

Cue

One-word command, then a long description of the return. Ask: whose measure sets the size?

  • Core truth giving is the engine of biblical finance: measured by proportion not amount, powered by love not obligation, trusted to a God who repays

Pastoral · say this up front

Some have been pressured over money by churches. This isn't an appeal. Nobody is being asked to give tonight.

② Teaching Walkthrough0:05-0:19

1 · Everyone can give

Mark 12:43-44 (NKJV)

"...this poor widow has put in more than all those who have given to the treasury..."

  • God measures gifts by proportion and sacrifice. "I can't afford to" is answered by a widow
  • 1 Corinthians 13:3 giving without love profits nothing

2 · The paradox of generosity

Proverbs 11:24-25 (NKJV)

"There is one who scatters, yet increases more... The generous soul will be made rich..."

  • Proverbs 19:17 giving to the poor is lending to the Lord, a Borrower who has never defaulted

Caution

Giving to get isn't giving; it's shopping. The promises are for cheerful, love-driven givers (2 Corinthians 9:7).

3 · Faithful in the least

  • Luke 16:10-11 money is "the least", the training ground. Faithful in pounds, trusted with true riches

4 · Blessing on the open hand

  • Psalm 41:1-3 God notices open hands and stands behind them
  • give first when income arrives, not last from what survives. Firstness makes it worship

Running over?

Drop Psalm 41 and Luke 16 first. Never cut the widow or the caution.

③ Group Discussion0:19-0:26

Pick 1-2

• Why do you think Jesus watched the offering box? What does His interest tell us?

• How do we hold the real promises of return without sliding into giving-to-get?

• What makes giving hard: fear, habit, past manipulation, genuine lack? Be honest.

Cue

Let honest barriers surface without correction. Validate past hurt; keep the focus on the heart, not the amount.

④ Application + Close0:26-0:30

  • Proportion decide it before God; give it first when income arrives
  • Church no member should face genuine need alone while others have surplus
  • Tight season shrink the amount, never the habit
  • One thing which one this week?

Land it

"The God who watched the widow watches you. Give from love, give first." Close in prayer.

Before You Start

  • Sensitivity HIGH long-unanswered prayers: infertility, prodigals, illness, singleness
  • Highest impact Daniel 10:12 heard "from the first day", delivered after twenty-one days
  • Watch for James 4:3 heard as blame. Examine motives once, honestly, then stop (no morbid introspection)

① Opening + Core Truth0:00-0:05

Ask the room

"What's the prayer you've almost stopped praying? What has the delay been quietly teaching you about God?"

1 John 5:14-15 (NKJV)

"Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us... we know that we have the petitions..."

Cue

Count "we know" twice. Confidence in prayer is not presumption; it's inheritance.

  • Core truth God answers prayer offered in faith according to His Word. When answers tarry, the delay is in the delivery, never in His willingness to hear

② Teaching Walkthrough0:05-0:19

1 · The promise is unqualified

  • Matthew 7:8 "everyone who asks receives". Jesus never retracted it
  • Hebrews 11:1 faith is the receiver. The studio is full of music a dead radio never plays

2 · Daniel's two answers

Daniel 10:12-13 (NKJV)

"...from the first day that you set your heart to understand... your words were heard... But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days..."

  • once while still speaking (Daniel 9); once after three weeks. Same God, same hearing. Opposition in transit
  • Hebrews 13:8 God doesn't change between fast answers and slow ones

3 · Answers travel through people

  • Luke 6:38 provision often comes through human hands, which can be slow or interfered with

4 · Check the asking heart

  • James 4:3 motives; 1 Peter 3:7:: honour your spouse; 1 John 5:14:: ask according to His will
  • each remedy is simple and immediate. Adjust and pray on

5 · Believe you receive

Mark 11:24 (NKJV)

"...whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them."

  • receiving at the asking; having follows. Thanksgiving is what faith sounds like in the gap

Running over?

Drop "answers through people" first. Never cut Daniel 10 or Mark 11:24.

③ Group Discussion0:19-0:26

Pick 1-2

• What conclusions do people draw from delayed answers, about God, themselves or prayer? Which have you drawn?

• What keeps persistence alive when nothing visibly changes?

• How do we examine motives without falling into morbid introspection?

Watch-for

Some waits involve deep grief. Don't promise outcomes for specific situations. Stand with them in prayer.

④ Application + Close0:26-0:30

  • Longest prayer three checks (Word, motive, relationships), then move from pleading to daily thanks
  • Group keep an answer-book: requests, dates, answers, dates
  • Long wait guard your picture of God (Hebrews 13:8) and your persistence
  • One thing which one this week?

Land it

"Don't build a doctrine out of a delay. Build an altar in it." Close in prayer. End of Part 2.
